About Us
Moving Beyond Racism...
We are a volunteer, non-profit organization.
Facilitators are past participants who have completed the Building Community Program. In addition to volunteering to facilitate, plan and deliver our programs, we are serving in the Rochester community in many other ways. We are committed to this journey and continue our own growth.
Participants bring a rich tapestry of spiritual, ethnic, cultural, and racial backgrounds and a wealth of life and work experiences that enrich our building community experience program.
Past participants have been teachers, homemakers, doctors, nurses, early childhood educators, counselors, therapists, consultants, professors, social workers, activists, students, ministers, lay clergy, and others.
From our participants, comes our leadership!!
We started as individuals passionately concerned about the issues
of uneven privilege in a multicultural world. We emerged from a
diverse histories to become a
unified group dedicated to the premise that mutual respect for
cultural, racial, and ethnic differences and similarities, through
understanding of self and others, can at least do no harm.
To actualize our mission, we use three main strategies: the
popular book group, the profoundly beautiful
Remembrance Ceremony which takes place at Durand Eastman Park, and our multi-dimensional Community
Building Program. You can learn more about each of these
opportunities here at our Internet home.
We were early endorses of Mayor William A. Johnson Jr.'s Mosaic
Partners initiative and have presented programs most recently
for Monroe Community College
and the Sisters of Mercy
and other local groups to prompt dialogue on issues of racism.
Please contact us for a
program to help you begin moving beyond racism.
